A form of intermittent fasting labelled the 16:8 diet has been shown to help people who struggle with obesity lose weight and lower their blood sugar, a new study has shown. More people turn to intermittent fasting every year, with many celebrities pushing its popularity.
There are various forms of intermittent fasting, with each form varying by the time interval in which the person fasts for. For example, the 5:2 diet means a person will eat their normal foods for 5 days and then fast for 2 days out of the week. The fast usually consists of a person eating around 700 calories for those two days. The 16:8 diet is a daily fast in which people eat whatever foods they like for 8 hours and fast for the remaining 16 hours of the day.
Around 90 million people have obesity in the United States, with this being around 40 percent of the nations total population.
Can You Lose Weight Without Fasting?
Fasting and dieting is only one side of the coin when it comes to losing weight. In order for your body to burn fat you must exercise or do some activity that causes your body to require more energy than normal. This means that along with a balanced diet, you should try to exercise if you are looking to burn as much fat as possible. This doesn’t mean going to the gym every day, but around 3 times a week. By going to the gym three times per week and carrying out moderately intense exercise, you will be able to lose weight much faster than if you are eating healthier alone.
We suggest doing exercises that require your entire body to move, so swimming, running, jogging and other exercises like this. Isolated movements are not great for burning fat as you are only using one muscle group. If you find that you cannot finish an entire workout without stopping for a long period of time, or you become too fatigued. Then it is important that you make the workout slightly easier, but still complete it. It is essential that you complete the workouts, even if you have to lower the weight that you are lifting or the distance that you are running.
Weight lifting is a great way for you to lose weight and get your body in shape. By weight lifting, you are increasing your muscle mass and volume. This is great as it increases your metabolic rate, which in turn ensures that you are burning more calories after the workout. So you are still burning fat despite not working out. However, the muscle mass that you develop by weight lifting may mean that your weight on the scales doesn’t change very much. This is because despite burning fat, you are gaining muscle mass.
In order to lose weight successfully and keep it off, try to limit the amount of carbs that you consume. This means limiting the bread, white rice and potato chips. Instead try to eat wholemeal bread and brown rice. Soda and soft drinks often contain more calories and sugar than you expect, so try to restrict what you are drinking. Stick to water and even vegetable juices that you can make at home.
